LIB: eBooks - Using Electronic Online Books: Transfer or Download EBSCO eBooks to a Mobile Device

This guide will assist you in finding electronic books in EBSCO ebooks, Gale Virtual Reference Library and Credo Reference. Information on downloading and transferring EBSCO books is also included.

What is your Device?

All devices require a MY EBSCOhost account

Nook, sony reader and other readers require Adobe Digital Editions

Apple and Android devices require Adobe Digital Editions AND Bluefire Reader app

Kindle Fire options include Bluefire Reader App and option to e-mail of 6 pages to your Kindle e-mail address

*if doesn't open in Bluefire, turn off device and redownload the EBSCO ebook, e-mail assistance is available support@bluefirereader.com

Adobe Digital Editions are compatible with mobile devices include nook, Sony Digital Readers (PRS-300, 505, 600, 700 and 900), COOL-ER and many smart phones. Here is the complete list.

If reading on PC or MAC Adobe Digital Editions is also required.

Download on Apple , Android, Fire or Nook when connected to Internet

On device (iPad, iPod, iPhone, Android, Kindle Fire, Nook)

  1. Download and install Bluefire App from app store, it's free
  2. Authorize Adobe Digital Editions on your device
  3. Open EBSCO, via East Central College Library, and sign in to MyEBSCO
  4. View "My checkouts" and select "Download book"
    1. If you do not have check outs, search for a title and complete check out/download steps
  5. Option to open in "Bluefire Reader" will appear and book will be downloaded
  6. "Download Successful" and choose "Read Later or "Read Now" option
  7. Enjoy
  8. Book will be removed from device at end of check out time, default is 7 days

Transfer EBSCO eBooks to a Nook, other eReaders

  1. On your computer (PC or MAC) open the downloaded EBSCO eBook in Adobe Digital Editions. If you have not authorized Adobe Digital Editions with your Adobe ID on this computer.  You will be prompted to enter your Adobe ID and Password the first time you open a EBSCO eBook with Digital Editions
  2. Connect your portable device to your computer via USB port
  3. Adobe Digital Editions automatically detects the presence of your device and offers to authorize it with Adobe ID. Adobe Digital Editions software must be authorized on computer AND mobile device
  4. After authorization, the device appears as a new bookshelf in your library
  5. Transfer items to and from the device bookshelf by dragging and dropping the title into the device bookshelf
  6. Enjoy
  7. Book will be removed from device at end of check out time, default is 7 days 

Note: Do not disconnect the device while you are in the process of transferring a title to the device.
