Please mark your calendars for the 2017 - 2018 Film and Lecture Series, presented under the Patrons of the Arts and in conjunction with the Civic Engagement Committee. Thursday, September 14: Native American Environmentalism - Panel Discussion

7 p.m., John Edson Anglin Performing Arts Center

A panel presentation and discussion about Native American environmental issues will feature Buder Scholars from the Brown School of Social Work at Washington University. The Oglala Sioux and Diné tribes will be represented. 

Stephanie Gutierrez, Oglala Sioux, with Hope Nation LLC, will present about histories and policies that have affected land bases over time. Buder Scholars Melissa Yazzie, Diné; Apryl Joe, Diné; and Kyla Woodard, Oglala Sioux, will discuss current environmental issues affecting tribes.

Guest Speaker: Missouri’s Public Defender System

The Prison in Twelve Landscapes is a film about the prison in which we never see a penitentiary. Instead, the film unfolds as a cinematic journey through a series of landscapes across the USA where prisons do work and affect lives.

Thursday, November 2: My Vietnam Your Iraq - Documentary Screening

Guest Speaker: Veterans and PTSD

My Vietnam Your Iraq tells the stories of Vietnam veterans and their children who have served in Iraq. Their stories examine the pride, challenges, fears, and the myriad of emotions they have experienced during and after deployment.
