EDU 213: Literature for Children: MO Building Block,
Show Me,
Mark Twain Awards

A study of literature written for children from preschool to sixth grade. The course is designed to acquaint the student with the best forms of literature for children and to develop standards of judgment in the selection of reading materials for children

Missouri Building Block Award: voted the most popular by preschool children in Missouri’s public libraries and is designed to encourage reading aloud to children.  This link includes nominees and winners.

Show Me Award: purpose is to promote literature, literacy, and reading in grades one through three in Missouri elementary schools and to promote recognition of authors and illustrators of books that are favorites of these children.  This link includes nominees and winners.

Both these awards are shelved in separate areas.  These are great "read alouds" and "beginning to read" titles.

Mark Twain Award: purpose is to provide Missouri children in grades four through eight with their very own source to enrich their lives through reading.  These books are intershelved with grades 3-5 and Newbery award.  This link includes nominees and winners.

MIssouri Building Block Award

"The Missouri Building Block Picture Book Award, sponsored and selected by the Youth Services Community of Interest (YSCI), is presented annually to the author and illustrator of the picture book voted most popular by preschool children in Missouri’s public libraries and is designed to encourage reading aloud to children from birth through kindergarten age."

Show Me Award

"The purpose of the Show Me Readers Award is to promote literature, literacy, and reading in Missouri elementary schools for grades one through three and to promote recognition of authors and illustrators of books that are favorites of Missouri children in these grades."

Mark Twain Award

"The winner of the Mark Twain Readers Award is selected annually by students in grades four through six.  The purpose of the Mark Twain Award is to provide children of Missouri with a recommended reading list of literature that will enrich their lives."
