Student Learning Outcome AY22/23

Eleven face to face Falcon Seminar Library Research Sessions, 75 students, was conducted in AY22/23 at Union and Rolla. A sample of seven class, 50 students, were measured of the pre/post assessment.

Q1B:  Percent of Students that can define a scholarly article before research session

Q1A:  Percent of Students that can define a scholarly article after research session

Q2B:  Percent of students that can write a search string before research session

Q2A:  Percent of students that can write a search string after research session

Q3B: Percent of students that can name at least one database before research session

Q3A: Percent of students that can name at least one database after research session

How experienced and skilled are incoming students with Library research?

Reviewing pre assessment results, less than 8% of students (4 of 50) can define a scholarly article, list a database, or create a search string.

Library Research Instruction (LRI) to Falcon Seminar courses will lead students to gain skills in Library research.

Results:61% defined “scholarly article”

Results: 55% listed one database

Results: 56% wrote a search string with Boolean operators

Success met: Over 55% of students defined a scholarly article (Q1), list one database (Q3), and write a search string using Boolean operators (Q2) at the end of a LRI session.

Each question had 49% plus increase pre/post assessment.

Library Research Instruction (LRI) to Falcon Seminar courses will lead students to become knowledgeable about the contacting the Library and basic use of libguide resources.

Results: 85% of student named 3 ways to contact the Library
Success almost met: 90% of students will name 3 ways to contact the Library (Q4)

Almost 100% of students named 2 ways to contact the Library


Results: 47% of students explained what is a Libguide

Success not met: 85% will explain what is a Libguide (Q5)

Q4 had a 47% increase in knowledge of pre/post assessment

Q5 had a 46% increase in knowledge of pre/post assessment
