This is a guide to be updated with most current policies and procedues of East Central College Library.

Residents of the East Central College district who are 18 years of age and older may apply for a community patron card.  A valid Missouri state ID is required to complete the application.  Holders of a community patron card may borrow Library materials per Library guidelines and may use Library computers after receiving a login code and password.  Community residents using College computer resources are subject to all applicable policies and procedures related to the acceptable use of these resources.

Use of East Central College’s technology resources (hardware, software, wired and wireless networks, telephones, etc.) is granted to the College’s faculty, staff, and students and is restricted solely to purposes related to the College’s mission.  Individuals outside of the College may be granted access to the College’s technology resources only with the authorization of the Director of Information Technology, President, or appropriate administrator, and only for a purpose consistent with the College’s mission.

Authorized users of the College’s technology resources are expected to act responsibly, ethically, and lawfully.  Violations of these procedures may result in limitation, suspension, or revocation of access to the College’s technology resources. Violators may also be subject to discipline under the College’s disciplinary procedures and/or prosecution under federal, state, and/or local law.

The term “computer” as used herein shall include computers and computing devices, as well as mobile computing devices, including, but not limited to, laptops, smartphones, tablets, or other portable computing devices.

LIBRARY DEVICE POLICY – STUDENT USE

Eligibility

  • ECC Student with a valid student ID, library account clear of fine or charges and read and sign the Electronic Device Student Borrower’s Contract.
  • ECC Student will provide a $5 cash deposit; which may be forfeited to cover late fee
  • Under no circumstance will student be allowed to check out a device for another student.
  • Devices can be reserved for first availability or booked for a future date; however no renewals are allowed.

Usage and Responsbilities

  • Devices should be used for internet searching, classwork, email, electronic books, and in accordance with ECC Information Technology Policy.
  • Do not place food or beverages near devices.
  • Some wireless access are not secure; be careful when using personal information online.
  • Devices should be placed in the carrying case, anytime it is moved.
  • Files, photos, videos cannot be saved on device.  Please save in your own Google drive to send to e-mail to later access.
  • Printing is not available from devices.
  • Student will not install or remove app or software on the devices.
  • Student is responsible for loss, theft, or damage to devices and accessories. 
  • Student must wait for library staff to inspect returned devices and accessories upon return.

Loan period

  • Up to 2 days, returned within 15 minutes of library closing.
  • No renewals are allowed.
  • Reserves may be placed for first availability or booked for a future date.
     

Fines, charges & restrictions

  • Devices and accessories must be returned in the same condition as when checked out. Charges for repairs or replacement will be attached to your library record and may result in registration restrictions (blocking of grades and/or transcripts) or affect your financial aid award. 
  • Replacement cost for lost, stolen, unreturned items:
    • $900 – replacement fee for Laptop & processing fee ($100)
    • $600 – replacement fee for iPad & processing fee ($100)
    • $50 each – carry case, power-cord, battery, iPad keyboard
    • $10 – mouse, headphones, screen protector
    • or actual repair costs
    • These charges may affect financial aid award
  • Late fees are accessed at $5 per day with a maximum of replacement of device and accessories
  • If returned late more than twice, device check out privileges will be lost for the remainder of the semester.
  • Failure to comply with device policy may restrict future device use.

Assistance

  • College IT or Library staff will provide assistance on library owned devices.
