This is a guide to be updated with most current policies and procedues of East Central College Library.

Community patrons 2/17

Residents of the East Central College district who are 18 years of age and older may sign up for community member library privileges. In addition, some high school districts have formal agreements allowing their students to utilize the College library.

ECC Library Community Patron Application

 

Community patron cards are available to residents in the East Central College district who are at least 18 years of age.
*Available to residents 17 years of age with a parent signature and statement of responsibility for each child on file.
 A valid Missouri state ID is required to complete application.

Statement of Responsibility

I agree to the following:

  • Be financially responsible for all materials (books, magazines, DVDs, CDs, etc.) borrowed on my ECC Library card.
  • Not allow anyone else to use my library card.
  • Report lost or damaged material at once.
  • Use ECC materials and equipment, including Library and Learning Center computers, in accordance to ECC policies.
  • Show library card upon request by ECC staff or security.

I understand the following:

  • By providing my e-mail address, I agree to receive electronic reminders of overdue materials, holds, etc.
  • I may borrow a total of 6 library items at a time, a maximum of 4 magazines, DVDs or CDs.
  • Most items can be renewed 1 time.
  • Loan periods are 4 weeks for books and 10 days for magazines, DVDs and CDs.
  • Use of Library computers require a check-out of a login code and password.
  • Print cards must be purchased prior to printing from ECC Library and Learning Center computers.

Library Staff:

   Make a copy of Missouri ID and application. 

   Give patron a copy of application and create a library card. 

   Create Community patron account in Sierra:  Last name, First name and set expiration to end of calendar year.
   Retain original application and copy of ID in “Community Patrons” file for 5 years.

Children 11/16/16

Children in Library

Purpose

All children age 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult while in ECC Library.   Exceptions may be approved in advance by an agent of the College. Refer to Board Policy 2.15 http://www.eastcentral.edu/board-policies/2-15children-on-campus-policy/

Guidelines

Behavior:

•The library maintains an environment conducive to study and research by the adult student.

•Accompanied child will maintain low voice level, use headphones on personal devices, be allowed drink and snack.  Inappropriate behaviors include loud, disruptive noises, running, playing with library equipment, eating a meal, etc.  

•Any damage caused by child is adult’s responsibility.  Torn pages, damaged keyboards, spilt drinks, etc.

•Continued inappropriate behaviors will lead to adult and child being asked to leave ECC Library.

Library Card:

              •Current ECC ID or Community Patron Library card is required to check out library materials.

  •Community Patron application is available to members living within college district, must have valid state ID, and age 18 and over.  Those age 17 may apply with parental permission.

Computer/internet use:

               •A community user card, or MOBIUS library card is required to check out login code for a computer.

               •ECC Library computers do not have internet filters.

   •An adult allowing a child to use their computer login is a violation of IT Policy.

Safety concerns

ECC campus is an open campus and this may put a child at serious risk from strangers.

Library staff cannot be responsible for child’s safety and comfort, especially in an emergency situation.

Library staff cannot keep child from leaving the premise.

Children may not be left in ECC Library so an adult may

•Attend class •Take test •Be in science lab •Be in Fitness Center •Receive tutoring

 

Responsibility

If the child is left in ECC Library without any adult supervision, the library staff member will notify appropriate personnel; supervisor, first responder, Campus Security, etc.  A student incident report may be filed with Student Services.

Book Buyers 7/15/15

Book Buyers Policy

Purpose

ECC Library does not allow independent book buyers to purchase discarded or donated library materials outside of the public hours of the biannual Friends of the Library book sale.

Guidelines

Independent book buyers or company affiliates may purchase from the Friends of the Library book sale during open hours to the public. 

Pre-selection or sorting is not allowed.

Purchases must be made the day of selection and will not be held.

Remainder book sale materials will be disposed at the discretion of the Director, Library Services. 

  • Hold for next Friends of the Library booksale
  • Donate to other campus departments or clubs: Journalism, Art, etc.
  • Ship to Better World Books
  • Donate to not for profit agency for sale
  • Recycled/discarded

Responsibility

Direct any purchase inquiries to Director of Library Services.
